Love cats and dogs? Then you should definitely consider making your holiday home pet friendly. Pet friendly holidays have increased in popularity in recent years, with 40% of travellers saying they'd like to take their four-legged friend on their next trip. What's more, holidaymakers have also upped their budget for bringing the family pet on holiday, with 48% saying they would spend over £100 per night for a holiday home that will welcome their furry family members.

But how can you turn your home into an animal friendly property? Here are 5 easy steps to turn your property into a holiday sanctuary for your customers pets.

1. Include dog beds, food and water bowls, treats and most importantly - poo bags! Your guests may bring these items themselves, but if they don't it's helpful to include these items in your home so that their pets feel comfortable during their stay with you!

2. Install pet-friendly flooring. You can install a variety of different flooring types, but one of the most popular is hard wood and laminate. This type of flooring is easy to clean and maintain which is vital when you have a number of four legged guests staying with you each month.

3. If there is an outdoor space, make sure that it is secure so that pets don’t escape. installing a dog-proof fence will keep your adventurous pet guests safe and secure whilst giving their owners peace of mind.

4. Make sure all rooms are dog-friendly. The kitchen and bathroom are especially important as these are the areas where most accidents tend to happen. Get rid of any small objects that might pose a danger to pets – including things like small ornaments and any items situated lower to the floor (we all know pets love to put the strangest of things into their mouths). Check that there are no electrical wires or cables on which they can chew and don't forget the garden! Get rid of any dangerous plants, like ivy and brambles which could be harmful to pets.

5. Provide your guests with a list of dog friendly tourist attractions, beaches and walking guides. Don't forget a trip to a pub can be fun for both humans and dogs alike so be sure to include details for local pet friendly pubs and restaurants!
